لقي ثمانية جنود إكوادوريين مصرعهم في اشتباكات مع مسلحين كانوا يقومون بعمليات تنقيب على المعادن بطريقة غير قانونية.
وأفاد مكتب المدعي العام في العاصمة /كيتو/، في بيان، بأن ثمانية جنود قتلوا بمنطقة الأمازون في الإكوادور خلال اشتباك مع جماعة مسلحة، لافتا إلى أن التحقيقات الأولية تشير إلى أن الجنود تعرضوا لهجوم من قبل الجماعة المسلحة أثناء تنفيذهم عملية تتعلق بالتعدين غير القانوني.
تجدر الإشارة إلى أن قوات الجيش والأمن في الإكوادور كثيرا ما تشتبك مع مجموعات مسلحة تقوم بالتنقيب عن المعادن بطرق غير شرعية على ضفاف نهر الأمازون، ما يسفر عن سقوط ضحايا من الجانبين.
